I. Criminal Definitions
(1) Felonies are defined as any crime that seriously disrupts the onsite or offsite functions of the regional government with malicious intent in a severe manner. Felonies carry a minimum sentencing of banishment from the region for a period of six months.
(2) Misdemeanors are defined as any crime that disrupts the onsite or offsite functions of the government with or without malicious intent. Misdemeanors carry a maximum sentencing of banishment from the region for a period of three months.
(3) Out-Of-Character (OOC) is defined as actions taken that do not affect the region of Karma as it exists as an entity of the game Nationstates, but instead affect the real world people that comprise the community.
(4) In-Character (IC) is defined as actions that affect the region of Karma as it exists as an entity of the game Nationstates.
II. Criminal Procedure
(1) Legal representation may be sought by the party presenting the case and the defendant, provided that legal representation is:
a. A Jiva or Enlightened of Karma.
b. Approved by the Council of Sages.
(2) The Council of Sages has the power to pardon convicted parties. If a pardon is issued, the conviction will remain on record as a conviction for repeat offense purposes.
(3) The Karmic Code of Justice will not pertain to Out-Of-Character offenses.
III. Crimes
(1) Treason- The attempt to rebel against or overthrow the legal government of Karma.
(2) Espionage- The act of infiltrating regional property, collecting information, or leaking secure information to outside entities.
(3) Sedition- The act of inciting rebellion.
(4) Voter Fraud- The act of falsifying information, importing outside entities, or compromising voting counts to manipulate voting processes.
(5) Identity Fraud- The act of falsifying one’s identity or neglecting to provide information on one’s identity.
(6) Defamation- The act of misrepresenting another member of the community for personal or political gain.
(7) Impersonation- The act of fraudulently representing oneself as another member of the community.
(8) Judicial Contempt- The attempt to disrupt judicial procedure or the demonstration of flagrant disregard to judicial procedure.
(9) Unlawful Disclosure- The act of a Jiva making secure information known to internal entities that do not have legal access to said information.
(10) Bribery- The act of inciting actions through promises of favors or gifts.
(11) Conspiracy- The act of working with others to plan to commit or conceal crimes or to aid others to commit or conceal crimes.
(12) Unlawful Recruitment- The act of recruiting members to outside organizations and regions without the express consent of the Council of Sages.
